Before you call
Could you be one of the million missing out?
Well over a million pensioners are thought to be entitled to Attendance Allowance and not claiming it. It could be worth a conversation if you (or the person you’re calling for):
- are 66 or over;
- have lived in the UK for at least two of the last three years;
- aren’t already getting Disability Living Allowance or Personal Independence Payment;
- find day-to-day things at home harder than they were — the stairs, the bath, getting dressed, the occasional fall;
- live with a condition that affects daily life — arthritis, breathlessness, memory problems, low mood, or anything similar.
Worth knowing: you don’t need to be receiving any care or help already. Attendance Allowance is about the help you could use, not the help you currently get — and your savings make no difference at all.
